Introduction

With version 1.5 Serato has introduced a function called "sample from vinyl" which allows you to record your vinyls within the SSL software using the SL1 box. Since then people have been asking why they only hear a "beep" tone when they try to record their sets. This article explains why this happens.

Start

To quote Konix from here:

The sampling feature is for recording real vinyls in SSL, not your "mix." So all you are doing is recording the control signal of the SSL vinyl on the turntable. If you want to record your mix you have to do something entirely different. You need to run the master outs of you mixer into your computer's soundcard line-in and use a seperate program to record the mix, or use an external recording device, or a second computer.

SSL can't be aware of what you are doing on the mixer, so it will not be possible to record a complete set with the SSL hardware only. You have to feed the signal coming out of your mixer back to your computer. With the limited 2 channel stereo input on the SSL this is unfortunately not possible right now. With the TTM57SL this will be possible.
