- The SL 1 hardware is all metal for a reason. One of which is static protection. All inputs and outputs have additional circuitry and careful PCB layout of parts to help prevent damage from static discharge. The government agency tests that the product passed before we shipped anything also test for it's immunity from and susceptibility to interference. Every bench in our factory has a grounded conductive mat to protect the internal parts that are susceptible to damage from static. [So don't take your SL 1 apart without static protection.] The whole factory's electrical system is carefully designed to isolate external electrical noise and prevent interference. The floor was even specially designed and treated back when we had the building custom designed and built for us (in 1986).
- You're probably quite safe from static. We've never had a unit come back for this reason. In fact, we've had very few units returned for repair for any reason. Last I checked (about August), we had 13 or 14 repair units since the product launched. But all this does not 100% guarantee immunity - it certainly approaches 100% though. Kind of like: what's the odds that a plane will land on your house.
- All this being said, you should feel really good that:
- 1) You're pretty safe from static damage. Especially if your fingers contact the outside metal box first when picking up the SL 1 (and not the I/O jacks or USB jack, for example).
- 2) The SL 1 is very much worth getting fixed should shit happen.
- 3) You can actually contact the manufacturer on the phone, via email or on their forum and converse with someone that has an actual clue.
- 4) We're ready, willing, able and, in fact, eager, to repair your unit in a time span measured in days, not weeks or more. We'll even do it for free in most cases (within 2 years; 3 years if you or the original purchaser of the SL 1 sent in the warranty info). It'll only cost you the unfortunate down time and to ship it to us.
