Moving library using iTunes Mac

If you use iTunes to manage your SSL library, moving your iTunes library to an external drive is relatively easy.

  1. Quit iTunes if it's running. If your library is stored in the default location (~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/), copy the iTunes Music Library folder to your external drive.
  2. Launch iTunes; under the iTunes menu, choose Preferences. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Under iTunes Music folder location click the Change... button; locate the iTunes Library folder on your external drive then click on Choose to select it and exit the dialog. Hit OK to exit the Preferences.
