I am interested in being able to use effects with a mic with the TTM 57SL but if I understand correctly the only way to do this is by using the aux input.

You can add effects to the mic input, no problem. The only thing to look out for is that adding effects to the Mic also adds them to the Aux input and the FlexFX return.
