Introduction

Some users report that they hear a hum when switching to phono while using SSL.

Solution

Make sure, that

  • there are not powercords near to the SSL box and the RCA cables (its always a good idea to keep them separated
  • the turntables are properly grounded

DJDave says here:

Make sure that you have no noisy AC sources close to the USB interface. I had this same problem until I noticed that the power supply to my mixer was right next to the USB unit. Once I separated them the hum went away.

DJ_Maximillian reports here:

Something you must check for is if the humming is still there when your laptop power supply is plugged in.
I had this problem where I had a hum in headphones and i actually discovered my laptop power supply was faulty. I replaced the PSU and hum went away. So try using the Serato without the PSU plugged in.

Cumputers generate a lot of noise. Sometimes you will have a ground loop, and thus get a hum in your phono-channels on the mixer. There are three possible solutions to this: One is using a separate course for your computers power-supply, the other is to make sure your computer is not grounded (either by plugging it into an un-grounded outlet, or physically removing the ground wire from the power supply) (some laptop power-supplies has not got any ground), the third solution is to get some ground-loop eliminators from a radio store.
